We’re in those dire times when we’re all at home trying to stay safe. Many of us won’t be able to meet up with our moms in person. But that shouldn’t stop us from celebrating the woman who raised us! Yes, I am talking about one of the most anticipated (Yes it is!) and feared days of the year. No I’m not talking about your birthday, the fear only comes after 29 (and it’s not bad at all, just an overrated dread!). I’m talking about Mother’s Day!

And If you’re reading this I have a feeling you still need to be getting mom a Mother’s Day gift. Well not to worry, I am here to help. And hopefully give ideas so that certain people know what to get me wink wink.

Candles and Spa Collections

I was in one of my favorite stores  when one could still get to the stores…I saw rows and rows of these crisp fresh candles. I felt transported to a serene cool place filled with flowers. Bliss! I mean I definitely NEED candles, you can never have enough candles. If you’re buying this as a present for your mom then take a look at them and decide if you’re going for a spa present or something for her room, office etc., I found these gift sets to be gorgeous! Choose the scent and the look of the candle accordingly. Maybe add in a chic candle holder too.  You can check out some of Amazon’s collections here.

Speaking of Spa – that’s my next item. Okay this has to be part of your Mother’s Day gift regardless of what you’re getting her. I you’re getting her a car then these masks need to be placed on the dashboard. If you’re getting her a boat, guess what’s on going to be wrapped up on the cockpit? You get the picture. There are so many options here and some of these product really do help you relax. To help you choose I’ve shortlisted them to be:

  1. Face Masks – if your mom says I have no time for this, help make time for her to enjoy this. These Viva Natural ones are my favorite.
  2. Bath Bombs and/or bath salts – even my 3 year old loves them! These are my favorite ones for gifting
  3. Eye masks – some of the designs are so adorable and just so so soothing. This Brownmed compression mask pretty much helps out with everything
  4. Bath and lotion sets. You don’t need to be a mom to need this.  I love this Spa Luxetique one, especially because of the tote that comes with it
  5. Face Massager –  I don’t even need to explain this, especially this Finishing Touch one

If you really want to spice up the present and ‘show’ you made a lot of effort then let’s spice it up a bit. Add a couple flower cut outs or turn it into a spa basket by adding ‘spa’ items.  It’s not crazy hard. All you need is

  1. Light colored twine – pick one up from the Dollar store or I know Target has some cheap ones,
  2. Candle and Candle holder (optional),
  3. Flower or any decorative ‘item’
  4. Your choice of spa gift (masks, bath salts, lotions etc).
  5. Glue or Glue gun
  6. A picture of you as a baby with your mom
  7. A card!

Keep the candle in the middle and the spa present on top or even around it (depends on what size it is). Wrap the twine around it bouquet style. Tie it up and cut the ends super short. Add some hot glue on the knot and place a flower (or whatever decorative item you chose) on top. You’re done! Pop in a picture of you and write something meaningful in your card. Boom! I can guarantee a super happy mom! Bonus points if you add on a spa gift card!

Decorative Pillows and Throws

This may be unconventional but it’s a sure winner. Each time! By now you would have guessed right that I used to spend hours at T.J Maxx  back in the day when we were allowed outside. I loved all the gorgeous things I could have for myself! For Mother’s Day of course. Some of the stores still have all these online especially throws, bed in a bag and decorative pillows! So if you haven’t gotten anything yet, this may be the perfect time to get started with something that goes with the theme your mom currently has going.

Bake and Dishware

And you can never ever go wrong with some adorable crockery. Cliche as it may sound but I have always found having the right set of dishware really does brighten up the party or even a nice meal.  I loved looking at crockery even before I was a mom . This may have something to do with the fact I’m clumsy and dropping things. So we’re always needing more dishes!

And these awesome home wares! I have had my eye on the KitchenAid mixer too! (HINT HINT!). Be sure to check that your mom doesn’t already have one or if you’re sure it’s about the end of it’s life. And we both know the mixer and the baking oven and other wares are more for you. After all where there’s bakeware there’s bound to be cake and cookies!

Same with the coffee maker. Coffee makers that use pods are so so much more convenient than the regular coffee pots. There’s less cleaning involved and it’s super quick. If your mom is a coffee lover than you may consider upgrading her coffee station. Trust me, get some caffeine in that woman first thing in the morning for a wonderful day (This may or may not have been typed by my husband)!

Watches & Fine Jewelry

If you haven’t already used this to your advantage then this is definitely a top contender! There are some gorgeous necklaces, bracelets, rings and bangles available specifically for Mother’s Day gifts. The packaging is beyond adorable so you don’t even need to wrap it up separately.

I saw some beautiful watches that are a piece of art in them selves. And if your mom isn’t a jewelry fan then maybe upping that with fitness trackers and watches. My mom loves FitBit! In fact both my parents are constantly competing against each other  when it gets to getting their steps in.

Sweaters, Handbags and Shoes

These are very specific so unless you know what your mom want’s go for it. Otherwise keep that gift receipt handy and mentally prepare yourself to see mom in any of those ‘picks’. A trick might be to take couple pictures online (if checking online then be sure to see if those items are available at your nearest store since there may not be enough time to get it shipped) and ask for her opinion in the sneakiest way possible. That way you’ll know if she likes them or not. Just don’t throw away the gift receipt!

Feed the hobby

If your mom  has a hobby, the best thing to do would be getting her something to feed that frenzy. I know someone who loves to crochet so she can never have enough yarn, knitting tools, prints etc. Another friend’s mom is crazy about her garden and has mad gardening skills. Anything from the lawn and garden section is a win with her! For book lovers you know what to do plus add small accessories like a book light, custom book marks etc makes it extra special.

Make Up and Perfumes

I feel like this one is a no brainer. For a practical view just ruffle through your mom’s make up bag and see what she’s running low of. Take pictures so that you have the exact name. Check Sephora.com, Ulta.com , SallyBeauty.com etc and get that along with some adorable new palettes or kits that match the tone of what she already has. Or even gift set of her favorite perfume. Voila. You’re done!

DIY

If you’re making something than a jar full of notes that each state why your mom is so awesome. Ah that’s like the best and sweetest present ever.

Prepare her favorite meal and watch a movie that she loves.

Make a photo album that is full of milestones that she shared with each of the important person in her life.

Blanket of Love. I still have to try this one out. But you may need some sewing skills for this. Get a square piece of cloth from sweaters, shirts etc of each person that is important to her. Sew each piece together to form a blanket. That essentially is a blanket full of love and support. You can try it with fabric glue and stick small pieces on a cushion. Turn it into a cushion of love.  You get the idea.

I hope this helped calm down your last minute panic and help get your mom an awesome Mother’s Day gift. If all else fails, a nice cooked meal with a clean kitchen and a clean house and 2 hours of silence are the next perfect gifts!

All in all, just spend some more time with her, I’m sure that’s what she will cherish the most. I know I would (my emotional ramblings post is proof of that!). Happy Mommy’s day in advance everyone !
